Watching for Him
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:2 NIV
Paul the Apostle wrote these words to the church at Colossae as part of his concluding remarks after giving a lot of instructions to the church about how to live for Christ.
Prayer ought to be a huge part of the life of every true child of God, as we talk to our Father, seeking blessings and direction, and giving thanks for His participation in our lives.
But Paul also tells the church to be watchful. Since these are his concluding remarks, the context of them would more than likely support his other instructions in his letter. Some of those included the fact that they now were living new lives, lives in Christ Jesus while they await the Messiah’s return.
Almost 2000 years later we are still people living in Christ, awaiting His return, which could be tonight or 2000 years from now. But He is coming back, because God has given that promise and God cannot lie (Heb 6:18)
So as we watch and wait, let us also be thankful and devote ourselves to prayer.
