I Am The Way

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?" (John 14:1)

I heard a preacher recently affectionately call this a 'funeral verse' and it is often heard at funerals alright. Jesus, in the context, was saying these words to His disciples, and was using it to comfort them regarding His impending death, and only a brief time after telling them that one of them would deceive and desert them (Judas), and telling another (Peter) that he would deny knowing Him at all.

They needed a little reassurance, and Jesus told them not to be troubled, and then proceeded to continue the conversation about trials and hardships, and testing of their faith without losing their trust that they currently had in Him. It's in this very conversation (section of scripture for us today) that Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth and the life: No man comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

Centuries later as we read this, Jesus is still telling the same message. We will endure hardships, tests, trials and tribulations and all of them will either tear down or help solidify our faith, and when such trials come, we need to remember that He is the one and only way to the Father, and He continues, "If you really know me, you will know my father as well." For those sitting with Him on this occasion, he says, "From now on, you do know Him, and have seen Him" because they had seen Jesus.

Today, let's come to know the Father, and understand that though Jesus is the one and only way to reside with God for eternity. Let us tell that to the world, and show them what it means to know Jesus.
