How About God?
This article was written for a Facebook audience, and when it posted, it included a picutre of fans sitting in a football stadium covered in snow, watching their favorite team. The comparison in this article is to that type of dedication to sports, vs our devotion to God.
What is truly important to you? Only you and God know, and even if you have to stop and think about it for a minute, God doesn't! He knows.
While Jesus was teaching from the mountain side, He told His listeners, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Just a breath later, He said, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other..." He uses money in His comparison to His audience, but it could be anything, sports, hunting, hobbies, your job, you name it. We can't serve both God and '_________' (insert your passion or desire).. (Matt 6:19-23)
At some point, we need to stop and be honest with ourselves and make sure God indeed comes first, because if we have Him competing with something else, we've got a problem.
If all who claim God today were as dedicated to their faith as the people in our graphic today are apparently dedicated to their team, we could set the world on fire! There's not anything sinful about sitting in a stadium in a snow storm to support our team. But we ask the question, are we willing to go to comparable extremes for God?
There is never a day when we don't need to do a self examination. But if we determine He's not first, or tied for first place, are we doing what we must to fix that problem?
