Heart Cleaning
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.” (Psalm 51)
How often do we approach God with a sincere heart like David did? God called David a man after His own heart.
How often do we pray and ask God for forgiveness of our sins, but say it about as routinely as we say "in Jesus name, amen"? Our asking God to forgive us is something that only those of us who are Christians are privileged to ask. Those outside of Christ don't have this privilege. We are asking God to remove those things that we have done that stand in the way of us serving Him. We want our hearts cleaned (again), and our spirit renewed again. We want our relationship with God to be pure, our spirit to be one with Him. We want our spiritual hearts that perhaps are not beating much, or having trouble getting started, to beat regularly and consistently.
When we are walking with God, something happens automatically. People see how happy we are, how content, how committed and devoted we are. They, hopefully, will want some of that too, and we can do our best to show them and teach them God.
God, create in us a willing spirit, help us to pursue you daily, and keep our hearts clean and pure.
