Savannah's Homework
A very proud mother at 37th street posted this last week on her Facebook page, and I secured permission to use it.
Our daughter wrote this in her notebook for school.
Do I believe in ghosts...? Well, it’s kind of hard to say. I do not believe in the ghost that is made up for a Halloween tradition. But...I do believe in the Holy Ghost that created the heavens and the earth; the plants that grow on the ground, the birds of the air, the fish of the sea, and the beasts that roam the land. The Holy Ghost that walks beside us and died for our sins who still walks and watches us every single second, minute, hour, and day. He is the One and Only and rules above all kings. He is the Lion and the Lamb. He caused a great flood; He healed the sick, and still heals the sick every day and night. He is with you always and watching every little move you do. He listens and answers prayers, like the time He did when Daniel was trapped in the lion’s den. He listens to all of our prayers regardless of what we ask (Matthew 7:7). His answers may be some variation of “yes” or “no” or “wait, not now” (Romans 8:26-27). No matter what, He still answers them. He is always with us every step of the way. To the day you are born, to the day you die and will still be with you in heaven. So, I may not believe in the ghost made up for Halloween traditions, but I sure do believe in the Holy Ghost.
Savannah, like your parents, we too think this is excellent and seeing you at age 14 acknowledging God in this way speaks highly of your Christian parents parenting skills and your love for our Heavenly Father that is growing in you. This may have been just another school assignment, but like many other opportunities you will have in life, you turned this into an opportunity to voice your love for God, and acknowledge Him before other people. Thousands of people will eventually see this, and be positively influenced. These thoughts are terrific, expressing to the world the qualities of the Spirit we worship, and comprehending the love He has for us. We need to be conscientious of these things in our daily worship of Him.
“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
John 4:24 NIV
(Savannah’s teacher had given her students a writing assignment, ‘do you think ghosts are real?’, and this was her response.)
