Don't Be Fooled
I'm assuming the scientists have it right. Supposedly at 12:30, August 27th, there will be what appears to be two moons in the sky, but only one will be the moon, the other will be Mars. This hasn't happened for centuries, and won't happen again till 2287. No person alive today has ever been able to witness this event, and for sure, I'm looking forward to seeing this.
Only problem is, it isn't true, regardless of how amazing it sounds and how banner the headlines. The Mars and Moon thing has been around for years, and the hoax has raised more than a few eyebrows. Mars will never be close enough to appear the same size as the moon unless God chooses to upset His heavenly bodies. The elaborate description of this supposed event lists "facts", states years, and includes some scientific-sounding descriptions, like "During the Neanderthal & Homo Habilis periods, this and thus happened".. all sounding great, and lending potential credence to the gig.
You know, false teachers do that regarding spiritual matters too, telling us things that would otherwise seem legitimate and support their position, until we compare them to scripture. God has established the way things are, and Mars and the Moon won't appear equal when viewed from earth because He has placed them in orbit, and purposed what they will do. God has likewise established the way things are in the spiritual realm with purpose, and try as they do, mankind isn't going to change God's eternal purposes. Our freedom comes from truth, and truth alone (John 8:32).
That's why it's so important to be diligent in our doctrine, to search the scriptures daily to verify or nullify what we hear. Because God warns us of false teachers, and because He commands us to test what we hear and to know His Word, we will have no excuse on the day of judgment if we stand before Him having followed the good sounding teachings of mankind.
People looking to have some fun may have pulled a fast one predicting two moons, and we are no less the wear for it. But don't let anybody sneak false teaching by you, because it will have ramifications, eternal ramifications if we don't realize it and correct it!
