Born Again? Ready To Die!
I attended a funeral this morning, and when they handed me the memorial/obituary pamphlet, it had an insert in it. I had no idea what I might write about today to try and encourage others, but after seeing it, I knew.
This pamphlet said exactly what the Bible says, what the Church teaches, what Christians teach and what we try to teach or encourage about in this space frequently. Here's what it said (summarized & I added additional references).
Not Everybody's Going To Heaven:
Rom 3:10, Rom 3:23, Rom 5:8, Rom 6:23, Rom 10:9-10.
More People Will Go to Hell Than Heaven:
Matt 7:13, Matt 7:14, Matt 7:21-23
Many Expect To Be Saved But Will Not Be Saved:
Matt 7:21-23, Mark 10:24, Phil 3:8-9
No One Can Be Saved After They Die (only before)
Heb 9:27, 2 Peter 3:9, Luke 16:19-31
God Does Not Always Keep Knocking, This Could Be Your Last Opportunity:
Matt 10:31-32, Heb 9:27
What the pamphlet said was true and sobering!
We only have a chance to believe, repent, confess and have our sins washed away by being born again of water and the Spirit while we live (John 3:5) (1 Peter 3:21) (Rom 6:3-10) (Acts 2:38). Since none of us knows when we might die (Heb 9:27), the Bible says "today is the day of salvation" (2 Cor 6:2), not only in that it might be our last day to live, but it could likewise be our first day of a glorious life in Christ Jesus. If we put it off, we are gambling with our eternity, and that is not a gamble worth taking.
