Do We Really Share?
We do indeed need to be thankful for what we have, because others who have less or none at all, would love to have what we have. This would be just as true for a homeless person on the street watching people drive by in their BMW's and Lexus's going to work as it would be for someone in a third world country wishing they lived in America.
We are very blessed to live in America, where the water is good to drink, the toilets flush, there is food at the grocery store, we drive not walk, and we live as free people. Likewise, the heaters keep us warm in winter and the A/C keeps us cool in summer, and our lights stay on at night. Regardless of what you may or may not think about our President, he's not an evil dictator who calls all the shots. No, we still live in a democratic society, where no one person has all the power. Technically, it's a constitutional republic, or as some experts have labeled it, a constitutional federal representative democracy. Regardless of the terminology, we are blessed, and thankful for it.
But we usually do exactly what I did above. We think of what we "have" and how other people would love to have "it", and we think of our material wealth usually, maybe our way of life and our freedom, and perhaps we get around to our government, flawed as it is, but still desirable and much appreciated over almost anything else. But, do we ever go one more step?
How often do those of us who have the Holy Spirit of God living in us, who have God as our Father and Jesus as our Brother, how often are we thankful? I'm thankful daily, and more accurately, constantly. Probably you are too. Again, most often we stop there! But, do we understand how many people would love to have the life and blessings that we've got in Christ?
Many of them would love to have what we have, but they don't know exactly what it is that makes us so different. Many of them don't know it, because they don't understand that Christ is what they are missing. They know that they are not happy, that they are discontented, and that they are miserable. Many don't know why or what it is that they lack, but we do because Christ has made it clear to those who seek Him that life in Him is rich and blessed.
Yes, there are many who would love to have what we have. Many of them need to be shown what that is exactly, and we need to be willing not only to share of our material possessions but the most precious possession of all, Christ Jesus.
If we share our money, that costs us a little, and that's fine and good. But we can share Jesus, and we still have as much of Him as we did before we shared Him, and I'd venture to say we might even have more of Him after sharing Him if we consider the Spiritual growth we gain. It's not like we lose a part of Him if we share Him, on the contrary, we only stand to gain. 'He is the true one, He is the just one, He has the words of life'. Our world needs Jesus, and they need us to reveal Him to them "...let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matt 5:16)
