He Cares, Listens & Answers
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has been at the front of the news all week, after she sat quietly and with poise while being publicly humiliated at the recent White House Correspondents Dinner. A "comedian" dished out repeated disgusting doses of vulgar ridicule, and dumped it on Sanders dinner plate in front of the crowd and the world. I'm not sure I could have sat there and endured that, but she did, and she endures some form of ridicule almost every day from the press. Now some of that comes with the territory of being Press Secretary, but it seems that somewhere along the way, our country has chosen to cross the line. Our detractors continue to increase, and a rise in hate follows in their path, and for the most part, they are comfortable with it. This time, thank God, a few who normally cast stones at Sanders recognized that it went too far. Maybe a few eyes were opened.
In an article published this morning, Sarah reportedly has a routine that she goes through before every press briefing, she prays to God. This report says she goes to God every day for strength and wisdom to face the critics. She knows what her day may bring, and the trials she may face, and she takes those worries to God.
We should too, and most of us do, to some extent at least. We may not walk into the lion's den every day like Sanders, but we do live in a world pressing in on all sides. God should be our mainstay, our daily guide. We can go into the world daily with boldness and confidence that He will be there with us, not necessarily to keep us from harm, but to lead us through it in some cases.
Sanders gets some really big darts thrown at her, much larger than what we endure probably, but there is no doubt that God can handle both large and small. Sometimes God may protect us with a hedge from evil, and sometimes He holds our hands while we suffer through it and endure it. He can even change the outcome with answers to our prayers. Prayer is our access to unlimited power, a power that the evil elements in the world can't match.
God says, "whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (Mark 11:24). "Do not be anxious... let your requests be made known to God" (Phil 4:6-7). "Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication." (Eph 6:18)
If we are going through life and not taking our petitions, our cares, our problems, our concerns, our worries to God, we are carrying a huge load that we don't need to carry. Pray to God, often. He wants us to, and He's constantly listening to His children. Peter says, cast "all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)
