God's Prescription
If you read yesterday's post, you saw the news headline that said "Crime rate soars in Baltimore neighborhoods where police were asked to leave. Residents blame lack of police presence!”
Logically, the question comes, 'what did you think would happen'? But let's change three words in that headline.
"Crime rate soars in AMERICAN neighborhoods where GOD [was] asked to leave. Residents blame lack of GOD's presence!” Again, what did you think would happen?
I suppose it started long before I was born, but really got going during my younger years, 60's and 70's. Madelyn Murray O'hair (publicly, with a good number of politicians and judges backing her quietly) led a movement, that was small, and drastically outnumbered, but one little bit at a time, managed to get God removed from schools, and then on to other areas of our society.
I for one, didn't feel the change much, living in a conservative West Texas town in the middle of the Bible belt, but looking back now, we silently watched America get changed, in a huge way, the effects still trickling down today.
God's presence, or even His principles would heal this nation. It took many years to remove Him, and it will take many to restore Him, and the fight will be much more fierce to bring Him back because the 'silent majority' sat by while a few took Him away, and the vocal majority will have to be persuaded to bring Him back. But, let us never forget that God can make it happen.
If we want healing in America, we need the "Great Physician" back at work. I pray 2018 will be the year that we see that shift start in our country, at least, we are seeing people start to talk about God again without quite as much political backlash. Perhaps that's the open door we've been looking for.
