Ready For The End
I don't know if it's true or not, but a story is circulating around, complete with photos to suggest it's authentic, that an ambulance was transporting a lady to palliative care, to basically finish out her last few days. She requested the ambulance drive to where she could see the ocean one last time. The Paramedics went one step further, and took the stretcher out of the ambulance, and parked her on the sand for a few minutes.
She replied that now she could die in peace, that all was bliss!
Neat story, and the ocean certainly has that type of peace about it. For all we know, she was a Christian, and was at peace with God as well. But short of being a child of God, no ocean, mountain, river or valley can bring us peace at death. It's not what is on this side that has any value, it's were we go next!
I know I'm not alone in sometimes forgetting the big picture. It's not at all what happens in this world that holds any significance, it's what comes after. "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." Matt 10:28
As we near that time in our own lives, one last look at the ocean will be nice. One last visit from our children and grandchildren will be important. But at that instant when we leave this life, all of those things will be set to rest. "But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body" Phil 3:20-21. Short of this, everything else is meaningless!
Today, if you haven't made those preparations, Jesus left an instruction book, just follow His guide. He says, “...I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;..." John 11:25
